The History of Spiritual Direction
Practicing an ancient art! Spiritual direction has deep roots in the witness of the Desert Fathers and Desert Mothers, early Christians of the third and fourth centuries who withdrew to the deserts of Egypt, Palestine, and Syria to seek God in silence, prayer, and simplicity. People came to them asking for a word of wisdom, guidance, or discernment. Their way of attentive listening, holy companionship, and deep inner prayer shaped the beginnings of Christian monasticism and continues to influence spiritual direction today, reminding us that transformation often begins in stillness, honesty, and a heart turned toward God.

Why Seek Spiritual Direction
Human beings are made with an innate desire for relationship. We have a strong need to do life together, and we naturally seek out accompaniment on our faith journey. Spiritual direction provides a nourishing connection to another believer, one who will work with you to guide you in your faith and help you to listen to that still, small voice of God in your life.
What a Spiritual Direction Session Is Like
As a spiritual director, I offer a gentle, contemplative space where you can slow down, be heard, and notice God’s presence in your life. You do not need to arrive with a polished agenda or have everything figured out. Spiritual direction is not about fixing you, giving quick answers, or telling you what to do. It is a listening relationship in which we make room for reflection, silence, discernment, and honest conversation. Together, we listen for God’s voice, attend to the movements of your heart, and notice how the Spirit is at work in the ordinary and rugged terrain of daily life. In this sacred space, you are welcomed just as you are.
